In my chapter, I present Ikigai as a practical path to integrate purpose, talents, and contribution to the world. More than just a concept, I propose an actionable model with exercises that help the reader transform meaning into action. I believe that purpose and happiness go hand in hand and are fundamental pillars for a long, balanced, and meaningful life, both inside and outside of work.

In this chapter, Cintia Pedrazolli invites the reader to explore the Japanese concept of ikigai — the “reason for being” that brings meaning, direction, and joy to life — and to understand how this inner force can serve as a fundamental pillar for both happiness and longevity. Drawing on a perspective that blends ancestral wisdom with modern evidence on well-being, Cintia demystifies ikigai, showing that it is not an unattainable state but a continuous practice of self-knowledge and alignment between what we love, what we are good at, what the world values, and what sustains us.

The psychologist and human development specialist creates an accessible path for each reader to identify and nurture their own purpose, emphasizing that discovering ikigai is closely linked to mental health, emotional resilience, and the cultivation of meaningful relationships. Through practical reflections, self-exploration exercises, and examples of incorporating ikigai into daily life, the chapter reinforces that lasting happiness emerges from intentional daily action, rather than from isolated achievements. In this process, Cintia highlights how cultivating a sense of purpose can reduce stress, strengthen vitality, and enrich the experience of living and working with meaning — integrating well-being, balance, and longevity in a deeply human-centered approach.
